Jen is preparing for her show opening, working on writing up some patterns, watching Buffy season 2 to prepare for Patrol 2 of the Sunnydale Yarn Club. She’s also loving the new season of Mad Men, Fargo, Orphan Black. She also watched The 500 MPH Storm, which is TERRIBLE.
Laura did Easter with her extended family and had a lot of fun. She’s working on Mean Girls Yarn club installment 4, watching Buffy for Sunnydale Yarn Club inspiration. She made gumbo, is getting over bronchitis, and is getting ready for a nice vacation.
We mention the Color Coded Easter Egg Hunt as a tip.
In The Knitting Bag: (13:18)
Jen is working on her Leah’s Lovely Cardigan out of Malabrigo sock in Eggplant. Melissa is going to make one too, so they may enter it in the matchy matchy KAL hosted by The Knitmore Girls. She also wants to make matching socks for herself and Ron. And she is working on her Chickadee from Ysolda’s book Little Red in the City in Quince and Company Chickadee in Slate, Egret, Lichen, and Rosa Rugosa.
Laura is working on her brother’s Broncos hat out of Knitpicks Brava. She is also working on a Kraken Applique by Katie Christie out of unknown acrylic. (She was going to make the Fruity Oaty Bar Chart, but it won’t be the right size.) She is still working on her Leftie by Martina Behm out of a Miss Babs kit in slate and reds. This will likely be vacation knitting, along with her vintage men’s socks in Dizzy Blonde Lambie Toes in the colorway No Touching Guns.
Finished Objects: (19:20)
Jen finished her Leftie! She is weaving in the ends. She made it out of Knitpicks Palette in Cream, Rouge, Spearmint, and Aster. She made it to 29 leaves, knitting on size 3 needles. She also finished a baby sweater of her own design out of Malabrigo sock in the colorway Solis.
Laura finished the Wave Pool Cloth by Carol Bristol out of Dizzy Blonde Dirty Blonde Superwash DK in Jessica. She also finished the left hand version of the Hand to Hold Dishcloth by Rachel van Schie out of Berroco Vintage DK in blue. She also finished the 4th installment of MGYC.
Devil’s Tower: (25:11)
We mention Ben Nye makeup.
Frog Pond: (27:53)
Jen had gauge issues with her baby sweater. She did not swatch, because she is knitting it with the same yarn and the same size (and same brand even!) needles as her Leah’s Lovely Cardigan, but she is getting a completely different gauge. She also made the yoke too long and decreased too much so the neck opening was too small and would have been a baby-strangling sweater.
On Deck: (31:13)
Jen wants to make another scarf for Interval House out of Cascade Cherub. She also wants to make a Lauriel Cardigan (also by Ysolda and from Little Red in the City) out of Wollmeise DK in Pesto.and a pair of Water for the Elephants socks by Rose Hiver in some Knitpicks Stroll in a bare (natural) and Summer Blooms (pink). She also has an idea for some mitts with jacaranda blossoms embroidered on them.
Laura wants to make a Lucky 4-Leaf Afghan Square by Margaret McInnis by Becka in Berroco Comfort DK in Celery. She also wants to make the Down the Garden Path by Michele DuNaier out of Lambie Toes in Special Hell. And she wants to do some mitts for her husband. She also wants to make a Dreambird by Nadita Swings for a booth sample.
We mention the Cigar Gloves.
Knit Culture: (36:38)
We also review Subversive Socks edited by Tabetha Hendrick. We really love this book and really do recommend it, with the caveat that it probably isn’t for everyone. But if this kind of thing is to your taste, the patterns are great and book is incredibly well written and beautifully put together. It tickled both of our fancies! We also love the section on knitting successful socks!
Geek Culture: (45:35)
